About DC Kitchen of Innovation
Kitchen of Innovation (KOI) is open-ended experiment seeking to promote independent artists who are changing the creative landscape of DC and trying out a new funding model. The invited artists are from a variety of disciplines and do not receive steady funding from a commercial gallery, university, or other non-profit. Attendees pay $15-$20 on a sliding scale to enjoy a meal provided by local businesses and everyone votes on the artist’s project they would most like to fund. The artists with the most votes take home the income from KOI. This is a funding mechanism designed to be simple for the participating artists, transparent, and democratic. The concept is straightforward yet unpredictable: attendees enjoy the dinner party, engage in lively, intimate and spontaneous conversation with artists and fellow patrons, vote on their favorite project, and become investors in the creative process of DC artists.
